2010 Australian Open Men's Predictions -- Roger Federer FTW!
http://www.fuzzyyellowballs.com The Australian Open starts tomorrow! In this video FYB offers our predictions for the men's side of the draw. We're anticipating a Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic semifinal on the top half of the draw and an Andy Roddick vs. Rafael Nadal semi in the bottom half. We think Federer and Nadal are going to get through to the final, setting up another epic showdown. Last year's Australian Open final went to five sets. Despite Nadal's win over Federer, it was Fed who went on to have the better year while Nadal struggled with injuries. This year we predict Federer takes out Nadal in 5 sets. Federer isn't plagued by the back problems he had early last year and Rafa's status is still somewhat up in the air. Is he fully recovered from his knee and ab injuries? Regardless, it's going to be a great tournament!

Australia Advertises the 'Best Job Ever'
WONG: Depressed about the global economy, unemployed, or just looking for adventure? Then look no further because a tiny Australian island is offering a dream job, advertising globally to find the right person. STORY: Australian tourism officials are looking for a caretaker for the islands of the Great Barrier Reef. [Anthony Hayes, CEO Queensland Tourism]: "This really is the best job in the world. It is a six month contract when you live in this beautiful luxury house, it is probably four or five million dollar house, right on the edge of Hamilton island looking out of the Pacific. We'll pay you 150,000 Australian dollars which is roughly 75,000 Euros for the six month contract and your job in a nutshell is to travel through out the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, experiencing everything that the islands have to offer." The caretaker will spend six months visiting Hamilton Island promoting tourism through a video blog. Duties include feeding ocean fish, cleaning a pool and collecting deliveries of mail that arrive by plane. But the employee is also required to go scuba diving, snorkeling and hiking and to enjoy at least 25 nearby island resorts. No skills or experience are required for the job that starts in July and there is no age requirement. Queensland created the job as an antidote to the global economic slump and is advertising in 18 countries including the United States and China. [Anthony Hayes, CEO Queensland Tourism]: "I suspect the biggest catch is going to be trying to get rid of them after six months. I suspect somebody will want to stay forever. It is obviously a bit of fun but there is a serious side to it. I think we in the tourism industry are in for a fairly difficult twelve months ahead not just in Australia but worldwide the tourism industry is in for a difficult time. Our role is to try help our industry overcome the difficulties of the next 12 months, protect jobs." Applicants must submit a one-minute video expressing interest in the Great Barrier Reef, a vast coral reef system that is classed as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The campaign has already drawn more than 200 visitors to its website. Applications are open until the end of February.

Australia warns Facebook users
Australian police are urging teenagers to take their personal details off social networking websites, after an 18-year-old woman was murdered. Police believe teenager Nona Belomesoff befriended her killer through the Facebook website. Belomesoff's body was found on May 14, two days after she embarked on an excursion with a man she met on the website, who told her that they were going to rescue hurt animals. Christopher James Dannevig, the 20-year-old man charged with the murder, is alleged to have established a fake Facebook profile and claimed on it to work for an animal welfare organisation. He is believed to have offered Belomesoff a job and to have encouraged her to take the camping trip with him. Belomesoff's body was later found at a creek south of Sydney. But as Al Jazeera's Alison Rourke reports from Sydney, many teenagers are oblivious to the risks going online can bring. [5 June 10]

Australian Monster Nationals Preview
Australian Monster Nationals Preview - http://www.amt.mtm2.com/ Brisbane Australian Record - by Clive Featherby For months we talked about the Australian Monster Nationals coming to the Brisbane Ekka RNA Showgrounds, and when it did hit Brisbane on January 20th, it lived up to all expectations. Right from the media day on the Wednesday prior, when basically every form of media in Brisbane turned up for the press day to see local football stars Allan Langer and Shane Webke, along with V8 Touring Car champion Craig Lowndes, strut their stuff in the monster trucks., the event had success written all over it. That night the monsters made every State and National news, had full colour features in next days newspaper and was on at least nine major radio stations. A new record attendance of 20,202 was set for the Ekka show, and it was the first time in 18 years that the venue had been sold out. Amazingly, the last time this happened was when we ran one of our speedway spectaculars back in the 80's. The crowd were treated to great stadium motocross action, awesome freestyle motocross with two backflippers, including Crusty Demon Cameron Sinclair, the two Jet Cars and by far the biggest fireworks display the venue had ever seen. Along with that, Jaye Featherby smashed through 3 firewalls on the bonnet of the stunt car, and of course there were the monster trucks! The trucks started off with a grand parade that also led to the official unveiling of Batman. However, it seems, what surprised the capacity crowd more, was when former QUeensland State of Origin Captain, Allan "Alfie" Langer, jumped out of the truck to wave at the audience. When the monsters did fire up, first up was a celebrity shootout between Langer in Batman, Craig Lowndes in Aussie Predator and Shane Webke behind the wheel of Monster Patrol. All three trucks and drivers performed surprisingly well, but it was the professional motor racing driver, Craig Lowndes, who without a doubt took out the competition, showing why he really is Australia's number one Touring Car driver. Half way through the show was the sky wheelie competition, where each truck was given 90 seconds to perform the best sky wheelies and determine who would be the 2007 Australian Champion. Sherri Schafer, driving Bear Foot, was the first out and almost put the truck over on its left side on jump number two. The truck is not the best and is most probably the roughest truck we have ever brought in from the USA, so Sherri did well to do what she did. Later on, during the finale, Sherri would return in the crippled truck, would unbelievingly attempt to jump a row of cars with locked rear steering, and end up putting the truck on its roof! Lowndes was next, driving Aussie Predator, and for only his second time in the truck, he was almost as good as any monster truck driver, ever in Australia, showing that these elite driver can really drive anything. Monster Patrol was next, with Webke behind the wheel, but again, the second of the new USA trucks was breaking down badly, leaving one to wonder if these really are the conditions of the trucks that some US promoters are used to... and if so, they must perform extremely poor at shows... "Alfie" Langer was next up in Batman, and had the crowd cheering straight away. However, he performed distance jumps, so didn't score too well, but was still brilliant considering this is not his regular job. Next up was Billy Featherby in Captain Crusher, who had the crowd roaring with great jumps. However, the 15 year old still didn't attack one sky wheelie. By far, Billy was the most spectacular, and if it was any other competition, he would of won hand downs. Last out was Outback Thunda, which was unfortunately losing power right from the first jump. In all honestly, the truck could do nothing but sky wheelies, as it broke down each time it got upright on the cars. All in all, it was a great night of mixed family entertainment, that has lifted the profile of monster trucks in this part of the world. Unfortunately, the Ekka showgrounds will not be available in 2007 and 2008, due to renovations, so it will not be until be January 2009 that the trucks can return. Hopefully a new Brisbane venue can be found to patch up the gap while the building work is taking place.

BREAKING NEWS: Australian Fires - Up to 100 Dead & 700 Homes Destroyed!!
Donations can be made here: http://redcross.org.au In this news report, we see that 76 people have been confirmed dead. Authorites are estimating that this could well reach 100 as more bodies are found. According to the news agency, this is the worst fire disaster to ever hit Australia...Far worse than Ash Wednesday & Black Friday. Around 700 homes have been destroyed and over 4000 people evacuated. Accompanying the flames is one of the most powerful heat waves in memory, with temperatures in parts of Melbourne reaching 48 degrees Celsius (118 degrees Fahrenheit) in the last couple of weeks. Dozens of heat-related deaths have been reported. Still, despite earlier reports, the fires have not posed a significant threat to more populated areas, including Melbourne, as they sweep across rural outskirts of South Eastern Australia, Walshe said. By Sunday afternoon, eight major fires were burning throughout Victoria, destroying hundreds of thousands of acres, said Daniel Connell, spokesperson for the state's Country Fire Authority. The largest blaze has centered around Kinglake, where 100,000 hectares (247,000 acres) have been burnt. The fires were being fought mostly with aircraft, except in areas where homes were at risk, authorities said. Another fire ravaged 90,000 hectares in Churchill, about 160 km (100 miles) South East of Melbourne. In Victoria, 30 blazes were registered in a period of 30hrs, said Fran Ludgate with the Fire Protection Association The New South Wales Rural Fire Service asked residents to remain indoors and to close all windows, as winds continued to push smoke from the bush into the Sydney metropolitan area. Adelaide found their city morgue filled to the brim with heat related deaths last week as temperatures hit 48 degrees. A make shift morgue was errected as more heat related deaths continued. Country areas of South Australia hit a massive 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). More high temperatures are expected this coming weekend. In Northern Australia, 60 percent of the state of Queensland was flooded officials reported, and residents were warned to be on the lookout for crocodiles in urban areas. *** It has just been reported that Australia is currently the hottest country in the world and these fires have certainly been Hell on Earth for all people effected *** Proudly Brought to You By: AustZone.com The Perfect Online Community! Bush Bloopers in Australia - OPEC or APEC?
President George W. Bush makes light of his bloopers during an APEC address. U.S President George W. Bush, renowned for his mispronunciation of words during his speeches, once again made audiences laugh during his address to the business summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) forum in Australia. Within the first seconds of his speech, Bush referred to the gathering as the OPEC summit, the acronym for the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and then quickly rectified it to APEC, causing the gathering to erupt into laughter. He later referred to Australia as Austria, but failed to pick up on it or rephrase the comment. Throughout the rest of his speech he mispronounced several words, including Australia's capital Canberra, Kuala Lumpur and Jemaah Islamiyah. And as if things weren't bad enough, when he had concluded his addresses, he made his way to the wrong exit, prompting Australian Prime Minister John Howard to make finger gestures at him, to show him the right way off the stage.

Commissioner pays tribute to fallen officer
NSW Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione, has paid tribute to a young constable who has died overnight after receiving gun shot wounds while conducting a search warrant at Bankstown. Mr Scipione said Plain Clothes Constable Bill Crews, 26, was attending a unit block on Cairds Avenue as part of a search warrant into alleged drug supply activity when he was critically injured. He passed away following emergency surgery at Liverpool Hospital. "Police from surrounding commands immediately responded to calls for assistance. They were supported by specialist units including the Airwing, Dog Unit, Rescue Unit, Tactical Operations Unit, Public Order and Riot Squad, Negotiators and Homicide Squad," the Commissioner said. A 55-year-old man has been charged with shoot with intent to murder and a 27-year-old Chester Hill man has been charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm. Both have been refused bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court later today. "It is easy to take for granted the peace, safety, and freedoms law enforcement professionals provide but last night's tragic event is a stark reminder of the dangers officers face every day as they go about their duties," Mr Scipione said. "Constable Crews is typical of the thousands of dedicated officers who put their own safety and welfare on the line every day to make NSW communities safer places. "Today, his family is without a son and a brother and his fellow officers have lost an esteemed colleague and our State has lost one of its finest. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to them all. "We hope his family can draw strength from the knowledge that they have the support of officers across the Force and the Police Executive during this very difficult time. "Counselling has been offered to Constable Crew's family and colleagues. I urge all officers to utilise the Force's support services during this challenging period if they need extra assistance. "The family has requested the media respect their privacy as they work their way through this difficult period," the Commissioner said. "Constable Crews, who attested from Goulburn Police College in 2007, is the first officer to be killed in the line of duty since 2006," the Commissioner said. "He served at Campsie Local Area Command before moving to the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad earlier this year. Mr Scipione said a critical incident investigation team has been established to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Didgeridoo: Australian Aboriginal Sound
http://www.discoverysound.com/en/DFSD590/ Acid | Rex2 | Wav Australia's native inhabitants, the Aborigines, converse with the spirits through this sacred, unique instrument. This library will imbue your music with a sound thats undeniably Australian. The 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney made a vivid and lasting impression of aboriginal culture on the world. Then came the record-breaking television series Survivor, the Austrlian Outback. These global broadcasts brought the rich sound of the Australian Aborigines to the mainstream. The didgeridoo is made from cutting a 1-2 meter section of a eucalyptus tree that has been hollowed out by hungry termites. Its performance consists of vibrating the lips while employing a circular breathing technique that causes the inside of the performer's mouth, as well as the inside of the instrument, to resonate. This dual sound is incredibly mysterious, and is captured perfectly on this popular collection.

Eat Lamb during
UPDATE: Sign the petition for Australia Week at http://www.australiaweek.com.au/ In what could be considered his most controversial suggestion ever, Sam Kekovich -- Australia's lamb ambassador -- will be calling for Australia Day to be abolished. In his hugely anticipated 2008 address to the nation Sam will express his desire to have Australia Day scrapped...and replaced with Australia Week. "It is my solemn duty to inform you that it's time to abolish Australia Day. Our annual lamb fest hasn't stopped unAustralianism racing through the land like horse flu through a Japanese jockey club," Sam says. "Australia Day has had its day. We need Australia Week -- a seven day lamb-athon to properly celebrate our great nation. "Instead of one public holiday, we need seven. Instead of one lamb barbie, we need 21 lamb meal opportunities - not including snacks." In a bold move, Sam plans to take his message straight to the top -- to the Prime Minister -- and has asked for the help of ordinary Australians to help the message get through. "I'll be petitioning our new PM to officially recognise Australia Week," Sam says. "Stack the fridge full of lamb, take the week off, and celebrate with me. Any boss that won't let you is a bum. Just chuck a week of sickies instead -- what could be more Australian than that?" Sam's call to can Australia's national day is just the tip of the iceberg, with well known footballers, New Zealand's Prime Minister and "weed worshippers" all copping a spray in his annual address.
